Development of organic nutrients management system for profitable and soil-supportive French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) farming in North Eastern Himalayas, India

Description

The integrated nutrient management approach using FYM, MC and VC in equal proportions (33% each) resulted in significantly higher economic returns compared to other treatments. This treatment recorded the highest gross returns, net returns and returns per dollar invested. The profitability was also maximum with this integrated approach.

Findings

While vermicompost alone had the highest cost of cultivation, the integrated use of different organic sources optimized the input costs while maximizing yields. This resulted in better overall economic performance. The integrated approach provides a good balance between input costs and returns.

Stats

Gross returns ranged from 1,131 to 2,426 US$ ha−1 across treatments
Highest net returns of 1,831 US$ ha−1 and 1,718 US$ ha−1 in the two years with integrated nutrient management
Return per dollar invested ranged from 2.08 to 3.80 across treatments.
