Integrated Organic Farming System: an innovative approach for enhancing productivity and income of farmers in north eastern hill region of India

Description

The IOFS model was established at ICAR Research Complex in Meghalaya on 0.43 ha, integrating various components like crops, livestock, fishery, and nutrient recycling. It was later replicated in farmers’ fields across three villages covering 110 ha and 317 households from 2013-2017.

Findings

IOFS adoption shows promise for smallholder farmers in the northeastern hill region, with potential for scaling up through participatory approaches and cluster-based implementation.
